Review Your Options As An Expectant Mother

Due to a variety of factors, now may not be the best time to raise a child. Could adoption be an option? How does the process work?

Seek counsel — not judgment — at Dempsey Law. Our team understands that you do not take this decision lightly, and you want to consider your choices carefully. We can explain how placing a child for adoption could impact your life. We regularly represent expectant parents to protect their interests and empower them throughout the adoption process. Let us help you.

Be In Control Of The Adoption Process

When a birth mother chooses to place her baby for adoption, she can make several decisions about the process. One of the main choices is the type of adoption to pursue: open, semi-open or closed.

  • Open adoption: The birth parent can maintain a relationship with the child if she wishes. The adoptive family and the birth parent learn about each other, and they can stay in contact as the child grows.
  • Semi-open adoption: Each party communicates through the adoption agency, but the birth parent and adoptive family do not share personal information.
  • Closed adoption: The parties do not know each other, and the birth parent does not maintain a relationship with the child. This option offers the most privacy.

If you already have a family in mind, we can help you identify and communicate your needs during the pregnancy and following the placement. While helping you make informed choices, Dempsey Law can help you address many other issues that may arise, such as receiving financial assistance, receiving counseling, and addressing the rights of the birth father. At Dempsey Law, you are in charge of your adoption plan and we are here to help guide you.
