Choosing An Adoption Service Provider

As you journey through the process of becoming an adoptive parent, you likely have many questions, concerns and fears. Dempsey Law provides attorney support throughout the process, with experience gained both personally and professionally.

In addition to securing legal counsel, you will want to find a reputable service provider or adoption agency when seeking to expand your family.

What Should I Look For In A Service Provider?

When you are choosing the adoption service provider or agency you and your lawyer will work with, be aware that agencies may specialize in different areas or types of adoption. Some may only work in open North Carolina adoptions, while others might concentrate on international adoptions. Each case carries its own unique set of circumstances, and by doing your research ahead of time, you can choose a provider whom you believe will best meet your needs.

When choosing a service provider, you may want to consider the following:

  • Communication. When contacting the provider, were you provided adequate answers to your questions? Did they return your call or email in a timely manner? Do you feel you were truly heard, and that your concerns were validated?
  • Circumstances. Does this agency represent the type of adoption you seek? Do they handle international adoptions? Are they equipped to navigate adoptions of children currently in state custody?
  • Fees. Is the agency transparent with their fees? For what services do they charge? Do they accept payment plans or credit cards? What happens if your placement fails?
  • Reputation. What do this organization’s previous clients say about their experiences? What is their BBB ranking? For intercountry adoptions, is the agency Hague-accredited, and have they been subject to any disciplinary action?
